I received a letter, though whether it's a prank, threat, or a poorly written invitation is unknown. All that is known is that it says "Three days" in red ink.

You wouldn't need to! There are several rudimentary methods that even an amateur investigator should be able to resort to. However, it might be for the best that I examine the letter in person. Handwriting also tells a detective a great deal.

Rudimentary methods such as...- Well, I suppose you wouldn't own a microscope. You could burn the paper to observe the color of the flame. Though, that would destroy the letter in the process. Or perhaps a simple smell test.
